The Swan memorial ftind now stands at £158 3s. 6d. The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Napier division, of St. John's Ambulance Association:—Superintendent, Mr. D. iL. Smart; treasurer. Mr. C. Beamish; secretary, Mr. H. J. Barman: committee, Messrj. Simmonds, Elms, M'Byrde. The late secretary, Mr. C. Beamish, was jjresented with a fountain pea and an umbrella as ft mark of appreciation for his past services. Mr. A. L. D. Fraser, at the Native Land Court, Hastings, yesterday morning, applied for letters of administration in the case of a Maori tvho died unmarried leaving an estate consisting of a £250 insurance policy. Sis only relations were his father and mother and a brother. The New Zealand Administrative Act applies similarly to Natives and Europeans, and on looking up tho statute, Mr. Eraser found that every feature of such applications was provided for except the one before the Court. He then searched :he Knglish statutes operative in New Zealand, and ultimately found the authority in a>i ?1d distribution Act of Charles 11, which gave administration to the next of kin, which in this case is the father and mother.
