SETTLEMENT PROPOSALS CONSIDERED. The meeting of farmers and .watersiders which was held on Thursday evening was convened at the instance of the watersiders, who approached the farmers and asked that a. conference should take place. The farmers agreed.": but took the ground that. they could only suggest a basis' of settlement and could not. negotiate in .the matter as principals. The conference took place, as reported in The Dominion,, yesterday. The proposals which were; tentatiyely formulated were considered at a mass meeting, in .the wharf waiting-room yes r terday, afternoon. It. was attended by some hundreds of the watersiders,' and lasted for an hour Mid a half, commencing at 3 p.m. The proceedings appeared to be quite orderly. There was no disturbance as the. men approached and left the place of .meeting. ... Subsequently the executive officers of the union met in their office at the Queen's Chambers. Mr. G.' G. Farlwid (secretary of the Watorsidcra' Union) was approached by a reporter and aaked whether he had any information to impart as to the result of the meeting, but Teplied in the negative. It was ascertained from another source, however, that, the union officials. asked. for another conference' with the farmers' representatives."
