Tho Drivers' and Firemen's Union demands the release of Dumaine, driver of tho express train, on the ground of the company's refusal to alter the position of the signals. • Postal employees had often emphasised the peril of trains in crossing each other at right. angles and at too short intervals. (Reo. November 7, 0.60 p.m.) 1 Paris, November 7. When the magistrates examined Dumaine, he stated that the signals were down. The magistrates then took him to see the points" signal-box—which the gendarmes had been guarding since tho accident, to present alteration —and showed that thoy were still at danger. Dumaine then broke down, and confessed that he did not see the signals. Crying: "Pardon I Pardon I" he burst into tears. Twelve of the missing are unidentifiable, owing to the burning of the bodies.
