STONING SPECIAL MEN.
AUCKLAND EPISODE. (By TWesfaph—Frees A Escalation.) Auckland, November 6. Ail inciting incident was witnessed at Epsom this morning as a company of thirty mounted spgcials were proceeding from Otahuhu encampment to tk> outer Domain. These had been, unablo to start on the ride when the majority of 401) set out, and, consequently, were travelling in lighter formation. When this company was in the vicinity of tho Diocesan Oollego a numta of labourers engaged on drainage works stoned them. The fusilade lasted for a few minutes, and several of tho specials Were struck by large-sized road metal, and, wlien they had got clear of the unexpected attack, many of tho number showed a distinct disposition to return with swinging batons. The workmen picked up their picks and shovels with invitations to "Conj£ on," but tho captain of the company called upon tho men to adianco, and. they continued towards tho city.
Another expression of disfavour Occurred in rather a startling wanner in. the Exhibition grounds. After setting up camp in the outer jDomain one of tho farmers is said to have been lookin a; for some water for his hofse in the. adjacent Exhibition grounds, when a workman on top of the tobaggan hurled a pieco of_timber several feet in length in bis direction. By smartly side-step-ping, the special man avoided the .missile.
