SAILER TO ARRIVE, Look Garre, ship (at Auckland); left Marseilles May 20. N THE MOANA. A wireless message states that the Moana, en route to, Sao Francisco frortt •Sydnoy, via Wellington and. Island ports, will probably arrive at. Wellington at 5 a.m? to-day. Tho vessel is scheduled to leavo again at 5 p.m. to-morrow. THE WILLOCHRA. The captain of 11.M.5. Willoclira anticipates arriving at Wellington from San Francisso, via usual calls, at 6 o'clock this morning. As she lias a largo quantity of general cargo for Wellington it is not certain whether of not she will proceed to Sydney on Friday, at 5 p.m. SMART PASSAGE, Favoured with fine weather and light winds, tho Maunganui arrived hero from Sydnoy yesterday, several hours earlier than is usual with steamers on tUftt run. She berthed at 8.40 a.m. at the Queen's Wharf. The steamer left Sydney at 12.45 p.m., on Saturday. Owing to the etri'ko nc> cargo was brought from Australia. Tho vessel left for Lyttelton last evening. NEW ORIENT USEE. The new Orient linor under construction at Clydebank is to have iwln-scrow geared turbines. Tho vessel is to bo of 15,000 tons, and the plans have just been approved of. For somo timo past It was undecided whether the new vessel would havo a triple scrcw combination of turbines and reciprocating engines, which Messrs. Joliti iirown and 00. fitted to the R.M.S. Orama, or tho twin-screw geared turbine on the Parsons' system. The merits of tho "combination" system wcro known, but those of the geared turbine applied to a vessel of such size seemed rather a doubtful nuantity. The builders, owners, and Lloyd's Register went into tho whole matter thoroughly, with tlio rosult that they were convinced that there vens really nothing doubtful about geared turbines, even if installed in larger boats. Indeed, so rapid is the progress' which the geared turbitio is making that it has passed from the experimental to the proved stage within tho time m which the largo liner is to bo commenced and completed. An Australian oxchango notes tho arrival at London from Australian ports, on Octobcr 30, of the Star of Australia. The vessel is Bclic-dxilcd to sail again on Novcmbor 30, for Melbourne, Sydnoy, and New Zealand ports.
