AN APPEAL TO THE 'SPECIALS
AND THE REPLY. , A printed circular, alleged to como nom wives of tho water si do workers, has 1)6611 circulated amongst tho spccial mounted constables from the country districts, urging them to go home. No women would bo likely to write such ail appeal, which is framed in the language employed by tho Rod Federation, and concludes with an offer to 'see you safely to tho station." We have been asked to publish the following .reply, which! has beon gent on behalf of the special constables to the Strike Committeo:
'We aro quite dear as to whether or not we have been deluded by the shipping companies, and also as to tho question of freight on out produce. "On these points we do not want advice from the waterside workers' wives.
"We are not here to baton and bludgeon anybody, and if the workers oaro to koep tho peace wo will not break it.
"But wo are here to see our produce safely on board the boats, ajid to maintain law and order.
"Regarding our treatment of women and children, just calmly oonsider the land of language and insult we have 60 far put Tu- with from those women and children (wo suppose they are workers' wives and children), and I think you will admit that wo have at least exercised considerable forbearance, and obeyed orders.
"Wo have no personal quarrel with the workers, but wo will see this thing through. As for your protection to the station —thanks for the insult."
