BUCKLE ST. AFFRAY.
MENTIONED IN PARLIAMENT. Tho affray in Buckle Street on Monday ovoning was mentioned in tho Houso of Representatives about five minuteß after it assembled yesterday afternoon. ■Mr. P. C. Webb (Social Democratic member for Grey) sought permission (which was not granted) to address a question on tho subject to tho Minister of Justice (tho Hon. A. L. Herdman) without notice. The brief discussion that took place was attentively listened to by two or threo watorsiders, who, with others, occupied the Strangers' Gallery.,- When Mr. Webb said that he wanted to ask the Minister of Justice a question without notice, Mr. Speaker asked: "Is the Minister prepared to answer ttye question?" The Hon. A. L. Herdman: "It depends what it is about."
Mr. Webb: "My question is this: Is tho Minister aware that any amount of those special constables up at Mount Cook are indulging——" Hore Mr. Webb was interrupted by cries of "Order I" loudly and angrily repeated, as lie attempted to proceed. Mr. Herdman: "I liave heard,enough of tho question to make a statement to the House if ho puts the question on the Order Paper." Mr. Webb (excitedly): "Very well, if there is any ; blood spilt it will bo at your door I" '
Indignant cries of "Ordorl" silenced Mr. Webb at this point, and the next business was called on, but presently he made another effort.
"Am I to understand," ho asked, "that tho Minister of Justice will allow these spccial constables—— P" Here, Mr. Webb was again interrupted, and called'to order, and tho House •.went on to deal with ordinary business.
Later in tho afternoon sevoral Labour members attempted to speak, about the striko when tho Shipping and Seamen Bill was before the House. Ono member after another, however, was ruled out of order when he attempted to develop the subject.
