PEA-RIFLE LEGISLATION. Tho fortnightly meeting of the Society for tho Prevention pf Cruelty to Animals was held last ovenmg. Mr. J. llott presided. ' The Otago Society for tho Prevention of\Cruelty to Animals wrote calling attention to a matter which the writers •lindiystood Would bo brought beforo Parliament this session,. They referred to the pea-riilo, tho indiscriminate uso of which had caused great annoyance arid money loss to farmers in Otago. The writers urged tho desirability of having/"pea-rifto legislation" passed without delay, as tho interest in tlio question was a serious ono to farmers and occupiers of land. Tho writers asked tlio "Wellington Society to support tho matter. , Inspector Seed reported on an examination of. a horse, which ho had made at Lyall Bay. A case of a cabman's horse suffering from bono spavin was also reported.
