"TRULY RUN."

PRESS APPROVAL OF VICTORIAN DERBY. By Association—Copyright Sydney, November 8. The Sydney "Morning Herald," in describing tho Derby race, says: " A splendid start determined that it- should bo a true-run race. Pike quickly sent Boragoon to tlio front, taking up a position on the rails and making the pace very solid. He showed tho way out of tho straight and along tho riverside. As tho horses neared the bridge ISubulus shot through, and opened up a gap of five lengths along the back etrotch _ from Radnor, Beragoon, and Andelosia. Eubulus maintained tno advantage past tho abattoirs, but faded, out of tho fighting lino a little further' on. Ulva's Isle gradually improved his position, and ranged up alongside Beragoon and Radnor, who swept into tlio homo stretch just clear of Andelosia and Ulva's Islo; But oro tho distance had been reached Pike called upon Boragoon, who responded with characteristic gatneness, silencing all tho opposi* tion in a fow strides, and eaino away and won with easo. It was a most ■exciting encounter between Andelosia and Ulva's Islo for third place." Tho "Telegraph" says:—"Fortunately tho r-ee was truly run, and no excuses can bo admitted of by defeated candidates, Though not actually the first. to move, Boragoon went quickly to the front, to give way on tlio- far f.ido to Eubulus, who at once commenced to make tho pace a cracker. Sis furlongs from homo tho field was running in Indian filo, Eubulus being five lengths in front of Radnor and Berngoon. When fairly in tho straight Boragoon and Radnor wero in charge, with Andelosia and Ulva's Isle ntxt. The excitement was intense in anticipation of a bitter battle between the eo-fav-ourites; but tho hopes of Radnor's followers wero soon shattered, for iii a short, sharp set-to Beragoon quickly doubled Radnor up. Pike was not disposed to let Beragoon slow down, and, forcing him along, ran homo a winner by four lengths. It was a gallant victory, and clearly stamps the winner as tlio nest of his ago."
