MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR.
SETTLERS ATTACKED WITH A TOMAHAWK. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrieht (Ilec. November 8, 12.40 a.m.) , Sydney, November 2. A mysterious affair is reported to havo ocourred at Cowell's farmhouse, near Borrigan. An unknown man ontered a bedroom occupied by Cowell's daughter and hor aunt, Mrs. Fox, and attn.ckod thorn with a tomahawk and knifo. During tho 6trugglo the room was fired, or.became ignited. Tlw women attempted to escape, but tho intruder pushed them back into tho burning room. Cowell came to their assistance, and the intruder then struck him sevoral blows with tho tomahawk, and escaped. Tho neighbours and police rescued the women. Mrs. Fox is suffering from blows on tho head and face, and severe burns on tho body. Hor condition is serious. Cowell's and his daughter's wounds are not serious.
