DEPARTMENTAL SOCIAL.
GOVERNMENT PRINTING STAFF. A social gathering was held in St. Peter's Hall, Ghuzneo Street, on Saturday evening by tho Government Printing Office Association. The hall was niccly decorated with flags, flowers, and lycapodium, the catering being in the hands of Mrs. Johnston. Miss Hawthorne presided at the piano. In introducing tho Hon. F. M. B. Fisher, Mr. Roberts, president of the association, gavo a brief summary of tho concessions aud increases in salary that tlio staff had received during the brief period that. Mr. Fisher had bean in charge of the office. Especially referring to tho increased salaries paid to female employoos, and the carrying out of rules referring to leave of absence that had remained a dead letter for many years. Tho Hon. F. M. B. Fisher, in replying, thanked tho president and those present for their appreciation of his efforts to better tho conditions under which they were employed. Although ho had been relieved of control of part of tho office, he still had under his administration somo of- tho work of tho Department, and ho intended to havo all the stationery used by tho Government manufactured in the office. This would give work for a largo number of employees. Three hearty cheers were given for Mr. Fisher as lie left tho hall. Tho gathering also sang "For Ho's a Jolly Good Fellow."
