BATSMEN'S DAY. 1 TALL SCORING AT THE BASIN. BAKER'S FINE INNINGS. Five big scores were made on the Basin Reserve on Saturday. The biggest was Baker's 186, and the next .Midlane's 76. Baker went in first for East A against East B. Ha was accompanied by Gibbes, who was soon disposed of. Three wicketa were down for 40 ■ when Alidlano joined Baker, and the pair played very lively cricket. Before they were separated they bad increased the score by 174. Midlane scored rapidly, but was bowled by Doolcy three wickets before Baker succumbed. Baker's was the seventh wicket down, and his innings lasted about two hours and a half. This brilliant young player met all tho bowling with ease, and showed great varioty in'his strokes. It was a great innings, and practically chanceless. Tho half century was exceeded by three Old Boys, who Bhowed the Victoria College bowling no mercy. D. Hay's 65 was a splendid inningß, and Glace's 65 was even better. Petone in second innings lost live wickets for 26 runs. Makeham and Ames bowled well for Old Boys. THIRD-CLASS. In the match between Karori and Wellington College A the former team knocked up 121, and the College team 27 and. 14. For Karori, Reed made 27, Coato 15, Tarr 14, Edwards 14, Princo 13, and Adair 10. Pilchcr, with 13, was tho only double-figure score for College. In the Old Boys v. Petone match, Old Boys, batting first, made 84.(Stace 42, I.usk 15, and Greenwood 10). Petone followed with 30 (S. Bolton 13 not out). In tho second innings Old Boys made 51 for five wickets (Hickson ID not out and Staco 18 not out). For Old Boys, Mathewson took eight wickets for 6 inns and Lusk two wickets for 9 runs bowled best. Old Boys wor. by 54 runs. JUNIOR ASSOCIATION. , Playing at Kelburne against Evans Bay, Harbour Board scored 167 runs (Thomas 78, Dumbloton 43, Plunket 14; Tumor 10). Evans Bay replied, with 40 (Enting 11), and, following on, scored PG (Miller 46, Butler 23 not out). The best bowlers for Harbour Board were Dumbleton four wickets for 10 runs and two for 26, Clarke five for 25, and O'Brien three for 15, and for Evans Bay Dempster threo for 18, and M'lntyro three for 31. Tho match between Railways (No. 2) and the "Now Zealand' Times," played at Andorson I'ark, was won by Railways by-29 runs, '"limes," batting first, made 42 (Balks 20). Railway roplied with 71 (JL'Namura 25). For Railways Duignan four for 12, Williams six for 30, and for "Times"'Jones two fop 20, Balks fivo for 34, Hewitt threo for 12, did tho bowling. In the match United v. N.Z. Railways (No. 1), United batted' first for 78 (Brooks 10, Whitman 20, Salniond 10). Railways, .'in their first innings, made 68 (Duff 33, Lambert 15 ; and Boyd 10).
