STRIKER ARRESTED.
CHARGE OF ABUSIVE LANGUAGE.
An' amusing incident, resulting in the arrest of a striker, occurred at the corner of Willis and Manners Streets at about 11 o'clock last evening. Two policemen were standing on the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel corner, when a burly wharf labourer, Blightly inebriated, lurched up to them, and, it- is stated, made uso of abusive language. He announced that he was a striker, and bb he made towards an Aro Street car he made some offensive remarks, and challenged the police to arrest him. The tram was just moving off to Aro Street, when the striker called to tuo conductor: "Stop the tram! You'ro in sympathy with us I" The conductor rang the bell, and the striker then boarded the car, and, it is recorded, in insulting language, dared the police to stop him.. The policemen at this stage ran after the q»r, boarded it, and stopped it at the next stopping-place, arrested tho striker, and marched him off to the police station.
