ELAXMILIERS' WAGES.
NEW DEMANDS. (By TflUflrraph.—Spccial Correspondent.) Palmcrston North, October 30. The flax-workers in- their new ' domaud ask for an increase of 3d. per hour for most employees, 4}d. for paddockers, 5Jd. for rouseabouts, £3 weekly for drivers, and ss. for each, additional horse, as against £2 6s. previously. Flaxcuttors ask ss. 6d. per ton instead of 4s. .9d„ scutchers £1 10s. per ton against £1 65., paddockers £1 7s. 6d per ton against £1 3s. 6d., Ap-ril-September £I', os. against £1 at other times. Somo millers when flax values rose increased .wages beyond the award, scutchers getting 28s. per day, and some mills'gave cutters ss. Gd. to 6s. per ton. The new demand also asks a ljd. rate for overtime, to apply only for tho first hour, thereafter a lid. rate.
