RICCARTON TRACK WORK, (Br Telerracili.—Pr«« Atioclfttlon.) Ghrlstohurch, Ootober 30.' At five o'clock this morning the weather conditions at Riccarton wore by no jnoans pleasant and there were very fow Bpectators present when training commenced. The light rain that fell last night had not done the tracks any appreciable harm although they wero not Suite so fast as they otherwise might ave been. The outside of the course proper was thrown open and was taken full advantage of by trainers and most of the work was done on this track. Tho plough track was also used n good deal but the going was slightly heavy. Exoept for a- few very light showers, rain held off while tho work progressed and several interesting gallops took place. A number of juveniles were sprinted four and five furlongs. Boldstroke, who got the better of the start, defeated Maraa over half a mile, and Rencontre and the Charlemagne ll—Nautiloid filly ran a similar distance. Merry Trick defeated First Light over half a milo, While Cortes finished in front of Asgard and Honesty was going better than Charmilla over a Bimilar journey. Mowbray (R. Borry) finished several lengths in front of Jeannot (Thompson) after running the last nine furlongs of a mile and a quarter in two minutes. The MenschikofF colt galloped very well all through and finished like a good one. Warstep (R. W. King) ran the larft half, mile of six furlongs in 64sec., and Stardancer sprinted four furlongs in 52 seo. Cherubini and Historiette were companions in a good working gallop over six furlongs, but neither was fully extended. Emperador (J. Campbell) spurted three furlongs. Martius (light-weirfit) trotted up to the milo and a hSlf post and it was intended that he should gallop over the Derby course. He took complete charge of his rider, however, and bolted once round the course, the reverse way. ' In the moantime Madama, who was standing at the mile and a half post, suddenly took it into her head to have a gallon, and she was not pulled up until after she had completed a circuit. This was quite unsatisfactory, but the solid .gallops both horses put in wero not allowed to stand. Half an hour later Martius was again lined up at the mile and a half post, and put up a good performance in running tho twelve furlongs in 2min. 57sec. The colt did not appear to be all out at the end of his gallop, and, taking unto consideration the work he had done-earlier in the morning, he must certainly be given credit for the pos-. session of undoubted stamina. • He ran the first two furlongs in 295e0., tho half-mile in BBsec., and the first mile in lmin. 45sec. Quarantine ran a mile and a quarter on the ijourso proper in 2min. 12sec., a very fine gallop. She was assisted over the last mile by Brown Owl, who is galloping really well, and though she was going much the better, of the pair at tho finish, the Cup candidate did his work very nicely. - Ovar was going very nicely at the end of seven furlongs, run in lmin. 33isec., while .Winning Way registered an attractive performance in getting to the end of .five furlongs in lmin. 2 2-ssec. Tho Cannie Chiol filly has been galloping well of late, and this morning's gallop must be considered a very fine one. Peg and Speedometer, also galloped well, while running >a similar journey in lmin. 2 3-ssec., and the former was going comfortably at the finish. Query (R. W. King) wo j not fully extended while running five furlongs in lmin. 4 l-ssee., and Chrysotis easily defeated Nithsdale over a mile -fcn the plough,_ tho last seven furlongs occupying lmin. 31sec. First i Glance'ran- six furlongs on the plough in lmin. 19sec., and Stevedoro put up a creditable performance in defeating Veritas and Briar Patch over one mile in lmin. 45 3-ssec. Stevedore gave his companions several' lengths' start, but at the end of half a mile ho had Teduced the gap considerably, and, going on very nicely, he de- ' feated Briar Patch very comfortably, while Veritas was several lengths away. Whizz ran five furlongs on the plough in lmin. ssec., and Salzburg (R. Berry) registered a nice performance in easily defeating crib over five furlongs in lmin. 2sec., the fastest gallop of the morning over that particular distance. Bonne Boucho was going better than Freo and Snowraker after limning seven furlongs in lmin. 31 2-ssec., and Silver Shield and Sir Malt ran six furlongs at a fast pace. Tagus covered six furlongs in lmin. 19 l-ssec., while Mere ajid Lady Marcia ran six furlongs on the plough in lmin. 18sec. Ogier registered the same time on the course proper, finishing very easily. La Reina and Bleriot were given easy work on the tan. The former is looking really well, and a few more gallops should see her at her best. Chorale and Gnome covered six furlongs in lmin. 2150 c., and Golden Morn (F. E. Jones) reeled pff a similar journey in lmin. 19 l-saeb., and Sveaborg took lmin. 22sec. Rayraont and Thuringo covered half a milo in 52} sec., and May Dalrymple and another occupied lmin. 20sec. in running six furlongs. Oxenhope (B. Deeloy) rattled over half a mile in 50sec., and Mumura defoated Joan over a mile and a quarter in 2min. 15 3-ssec. This gallop was a really good one, and suggests that Mumurahas come back to his best form. Waitara and Countess of-Tolstoi reeled off five furlongs in lmin. 6sec., while Orton covered a similar journey in lmin. 3£sec.

After breakfast Fire God (A. H. Wilson), Tuniso (F. E. Jones), Atheldene (W. Scott), and Signorile (T. Chapman) were given the first sprint down the straight, and a few minutes, later Botanist, Don Francisco, Wharfinger, and CourtmarEi.il finished in that order after running half a mile, but the last-named pair were not hurried. • Glenfin ran seven furlongs in lmin. S3 2-ssec., and Tnnnhauser and Thrax ran six furlong j in lmin. 18 4-ssec., both geldings do'ug their work very nicely. Ada Morling and Downstroke covered seven furlongs 37sec., and Glencannioh and 1 ontician got to the end of a mile in lmin. 46 l-ssec. Moonglow and Counsel were exorcised nt the barrier, and in a sprint the former easilr held his oompanion. Sartosta and Colleen Mary ran half a mile in 52 2-ssec., while the Calibre—Britoness filly and the Calibre-Sevres Chinn. filly were schooled at the barrier. Kilmeny ran a mile and a quarter in 2min. 27sec., the last nine furlongs being run in lmin. 2 3-5 sec. Franzrovrn covered six furlongs in lmin. 18 2-ssec., and Ladrone was going nicely after running a mile in lmin. 46isec.
