Working members were reported to number 25, and honorary members 80. The club's first exhibition last May resulted in a. loss of £30, but pictures to tlie value of £72 were sold out of the 322 works exhibited. An effort will bo made to liquidate ulotlebt by an art union, to bo hold during tho show. Tho following officers were elected: —President, Mr. D. W. Low; vice-president, Sir.' 11. The Court was crowded on Wednesday, when M'Gill and Hani, two young men charged with the theft of nearly £u0 from a Native, Joe Hohipuha, appeared, after being remanded for eight clays. Mr. Rapley, on behalf of Haru, applied for a remand, and asked that tho case bo heard before the S.M. This was granted, bail being allowed.' .M'Gill pleaded not guilty, reserved his defence, and was committed to tho Supremo Court for trial. A meeting of the Otaki Cricket Club was hold on Wednesday, tho patron (Mr. Byron Brown) presiding. It was decided to hold a social and dance in Bright's Theatre as soon as possible. An entertainment committee, consisting of Messrs. D. .Judd, M. Ayre, G. Tattersall, with Mrs. H. Larkiii as secretary, was appointed to carry out arrangements. , The following have been elected officers for tho l'araparaumti Horticultural Society:—President, Mrs. 11. S. Hadfield: vice-presidents, Mesdames Tilley and Tully, Messrs. Bennott, Perm, Howell, and Smith; secretary, Mr. John M'Lean. Captain Hume, of Wangamii, is expected hero on Saturday, to make an inspection of the local Territorials. Ripe strawberries arc now on sale bfre.
