THE EMPLOYERS.

i ON INCREASING LAWLESSNESS

When delegates met at the annual conference of the New Zealand Employers' Association yesterday,' the strike was one of tlie early matters under consideration. The conference carried the following resolutions: "That this meeting of the New Zealand Employers' Federation urges the employers affected by the Wellington waterside workers' - strike not on any account to meet any organisation in conference unless such organisation is prepared to give a definite guarantco that it will register under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, and that in the event of agreement being arrived at, stops will be taken to have it made into an Arbitration Court award. This mooting also desires to assure employers nffectcd bv the strike that the New Zealand Employers' Federation is prepared to render every assistance in its power." The conference also affirmed: — 1 'That this meeting of the New Zealand Employers' Federation deeply deplores the number of strikes that have taken place in New Zealand during the past year, and to note the increasing lawlessness connected with them, aud feels that unless strong measures are taken by the Government to secure law and order life and property will not be safe.' "The meeting is strongly of the opinion that employers should not in future enter into any agreements with tlie labour unions unless under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act." The above resolutions were conveyed in person by tho executive to the shipowners while the latter were meeting yesterday afternoon.
