GENEE & THE STRIKE.
WILL COMPANY BE STUCK UP? Being very anxious as to whether tho waterside workers now on' strike will permit him to ship the scenery, effects, and wardrobe of the Genee and Russian Ballet organisation, Mr. Charles Berkeley, tho manager, has waited on the Strike Committee in order to ascertain, as exactly as possible, the position in which 110 stands., the company being under arrangement to leave for Lyttclton after the performance 011 Saturday evening. Mr. Berkeley -was given a sympathetic hearing, but was informed very plainly that tho committee did not intend that any work usually done by watersiders would be allowed to proceed during tho present crisis. He was advised to hope that the trouble would bo terminated bv the week-end. Mr. Berkeley stated to a reporter that the position was a very serious ono to his firm. Tho organisation was ono of tho most expensive ever brought to New Zealand, and was brought, over hero to keep faith with Now Zealand patrons at 110 little inconvenieneo and expense to tho firm. Tho scenery and costumes are all important to the artistic performances given, and if they cannot bo forwarded with tho company he hardly knew what to do. Most of the scenery of the Royal Comic Opera Company, now in tho south, still lies in the railway trucks and Harbour Board's shod nn tho wharf, awaiting shipment at tho pleasure of the strikers.
