WARSHIP'S STORES.
BLUEJACKETS WILL SHIFT THEM. There is 110 doubt that the presence of H.M.S. Psyche in port has had . a restraining influence over some of the strikers. As compared with previous days, yesterday was as quiet as any Sunday about the wharves. ' Nearly everywhere the bluejackets were treated with respect. On one occasion, however, two petty officers wore walking through a crowd of from 150 to 200 strikers. They wero soon hemmed in on every side, and one man, moro venturesomo than the rest, asked ono of the sailors why the Psycho was in port. "To deal with you fellows to-morrow m6rning." The remark was only jocular, but it seemed to fall like an innocent thunderbolt. The crowd withdrew, and tho petty officers proceeded 011 their way without further interference. The Ulimaroa has 10 tons of ship's stores for H.M.S. Pyramus, and it was tho intention to transfer this shipment to 'H.M.S. Psyche yesterday for transhipment to H.M.S. I'yraimis. The Strike Committee, when approached, would not say whether tho removal could or could not be done. It has, however, been decided that bluejackets from H.M.S. Psyche will shift tho gofids themselves this morning.
visited by Mr. James Hutchen (director) and Mr. Wilson (secretary of the company) at 5.15 p.m., when there was no sign or scent of fire. Yet at 6 o'clock smoke was discovered belching out of the roof. The exact nature of the damage done could not be computed last evening. As far as the machinery is concerned, the only piece likely'to be damaged is a planing-machine, whilst a quantity of mouldings £(nd other timber were destroyed, and the centre of the ceiling badly burnt. There was a good deal of other valuable machinery 011 the flat which escaped damage, and the heavier machinery, on the ground floor,, will only suffer slightly from the effects of the water. The insurances wero not available last' evening. The bi.-igade did excellent work in checking such an ugly-looking fire, and were ably assisted by the members of the Fire Police.
