Allen, of Dunedin, will bo a passenger by tho Athenic, which is advertised to leave Wellington ou Thursday. Ho expects to be away for about nine months, during which time he will tour ! England and Canada. Mr. F. Smith, member for AVaitaki, has intimated through tho local press that ho does not intend to rccontest the Waitaki seat at tho next election. A requisition is being largely signed asking Mr. Norton Francis to stand for the seat.—Press Association. Mr. C. E. Graham, at present manager of tho Bluff branch of t'ho Bank of New Zealand, has been appointed manager at Qusenstown. Mr. Scott, at present manager at Cromwell, will succeed Mr. Graham at tho Bluff branch. Subject to formal confirmation, tho Rev. Mr. Julius, of Papanui, has been appointed to succeed the Rev. M. Gibson as pastor of St. Augustine's Church, Waimate (says the "Advertiser"). He is a son of Bishop Julius. Mr. It. Sinclair, who has been a clerk in the Land and Deeds Registry Office, Dunedin, for about 27 years, has been appointed assistant land, registrar at Invercargill. Tho death is announced of Mr-s. Barclay, wido.v of the late Rev. George Barclay, the pioneer Presbyterian minister of South Canterbury. .Mrs. Barclay came to New Zealand with her husband in January, 1805, landing at Lyttejton. Mr. James Hain, headmaster of tlio Invercargill Park School, lias been appointed by the Southland Education Board to take charge of the South School, the vacancy being created through the retirement of Mr. E. AVebber. At a meeting of tho Northern Coal Mines, Ltd., at Auckland, on Tuesday morning, the chairman, Mr, E, AY. Alison, said the shareholders would be pleased to know that tho health of tho managing director, Mf. AV. D. Holgate, had been restored since his departure from Auckland oil a holiday trip to England, enforced by* a, breakdown.
