WORKING JEWELLERS.
HOURS OF WORK AND WAGES. . Mr. E. Kennedy, secretary of the Wellington Jewellers', Watch and Clock Makers .Union, has been advised by the Labour Department that the union's registration has been accepted. A circular has now been sent to tho employ-, ers iu the trade asking them to attend a conference iq the Trades' Hall on Wednesday next to discuss wages and conditions of work. The demands of the union are for a week of 44 hours, with a minimum wage of from £3 10s. per week to £4 per week, according to the class of work in which journeymen are engaged, tho terms of engagement to be weekly. Preference to unionists is asked for, and provisions are also inserted in the demands in reference to overtime, holidays, and the employment of apprentices. .
