TRAM TRAFFIC BLOCKED.

CAR LEAVES THE RAILS. A block in the tram traffic occurred in Kent Terrace at noon yesterday, which held up a long string of cars until the service was readjusted. The trouble was occasioned by the after-bogy of a Seatoun-bound palace car the rails at the junction of Elizabeth Street and Kent Terrace, occasioned by the point having, shifted suddenly after the front bogy had negotiated the .turn. Thii meant that one-half of the car was sot for Seatoun and the other for Newtown, and as tho leader 'had the pu'i, the- after bogy was pulled oft the rails. Tho task of lifting the-after end of the car on to the rails proved an arduous one, and ovef two hours elapsed before tho lino wtis cleared. In tins emergency thd cars frtim i.-ofuouu, Kilbirnie, and Lyall Day were .turned back on their tracks, and tho same had to bo done in the'case of cars on the city side of the block. Tho Island Bay nnd Constable Street cars, which usually travel by way of Courtenay Place, were diverted to the Cuba Street route until tho line was cleared. Tli.o transfer of passengers bound eastward wai; also promptly arranged.
