A WOMAN'S FATAL JUMP. (By Tsiefffapli.—Press Association.) YVaimato, October 28. A' distressing fatal accident occurred at Studliolme Junction this evening. Mrs. Cochrano, wife of Mr. George V. Cochrane, clerk of the Waimate County Council, was returning iioiue by tho slott train from Timaru, where she had been visiting an invalid son. At Stndbolme Junction she got aboard the Oamaru train instead of the Waimate ■train. She realised her mistake as Eooil as the train moved, and was seen to be about to jump off. One of tho railway clerks called out warning her not to jump, but being deaf sho took -no heed, and jumped tho wrong way and fell. She got drawn under by the bogie of the rear carriage, A railway clerk named Gorman, acting promptly, _ en. deavoured to pull hor clear, tat failed, Realising this, he jumped on the van and put the Westinghouse brake hard on, pulling the train Up, but not before part of one carriage and a van' bad passed over tho body. Tho lower part of the body was terribly mangled, and life was extinct. A few moments after the body was carried on to the platform.
