POLICE CASES. PAIR OF INVISIBLE FOWLS. Sydney Huxley was charged at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Sir. AA\ G. Riddel!, S.M., with the theft of a pair of fowls from William Brown. Accused was represented by Sir. P. AA\ Jackson, and pleaded guilty. Inspector Hendry stated that accused had been observed carrying two partly strangled fosyls from complainant's yard. Ho had been stopped, but, with the fowls in his hand, ho flatly denied that he had them. Accused had then thrown them over a fence. Sir; Jackson stated that drink was the cause of tho lapse. It was very evident that accused must have been drunk when, lie denied having the fowls when the contrary was clear. "I understand," stated Sir. Jackson, "that tiro fowls which -be was carrying had recovered from their strangulation, and were plainly alive." 1 Accused was fined 205., in default of seven days' imprisonment. DISTURBANCE IN THE SQUARE. As tho result of a disturbance in Post Office Square on Sloiulay afternoon, George Tucker appeared to answer two charges, oils of disorderly conduct and another of using certain language. Inspector Hendry stated that accused had caused a good deal of trouble when arrested. He was, however, not a waterside worker. The language complained of had been used during the trouble. Tho strike pickets had eventually helped to restore order. ' On the first charge accused was fined 205., and on the second £3. Tho alternatives were fixed at seven days and twenty-one days respectively. INSOBRIETY. Benjamin Church was fined 10s. for insobriety and £3 for _ obstructing a constable in tho execution of his duty. The alternatives were 48 hours and 14 days respectively. A fine of 20s. was imposed on Slalcoltn Brown, who was charged with insobriety. Five first offenders appeared on charges of insobriety. Ono was convicted and discharged, three were each finfd 55., and another- who failed to appear had his bail (10$.) estreated'. Frank Donald was fined 10s. for in-f-obrietv. On a similar charge Annie Maud Sales -was fined ss.
