DRIVERS' POSITION.
EMPLOYERS MAKE PROPOSALS. Representatives of tlic carrying firms of-the City held a conference with the secretary of tho Drivers' Union yesterday with regard to tlie-ir position in tho present- crisis. It was explained that on account of the cessation of work on tho wharf tho work for tho carriers had dropped to a minimum. . Tlio employers proposed- that, whilst tho strike continued, the men would bo em T ployed in sections, so many on 0110 day ami so many on another, and so cut up what work "was going fairly and enuitably. Tin's proposal was submitted by the secretary to the executive of the union last evening, and will be placed before a mooting of tlio members of
tlio union to bd held ill the Trades Hall t-o-night. _ . It is understood that tho Drivers Union held n meeting at tlio Trades Hall 011 Friday evoning last to discuss tlio strike question, and decided that it was riot advisable to go out on strike. Prior to coming to this decision the meeting was addressed by 6tr;ke delegates, out after thoy had retired, .the speakers urged tliat they were benig well treated, and had 110 cause to strike.
