r 3 A new union, known as the Metal 3 Workers' Assistants' Union, has been 1 formed and registered in Wellington. It ' comprises workers in foundries 4 who. are 1 not members of the engineers' society. 3 Claims which have just been issued " to employers provide.for tho following: ! A forty-four-liour week, overtime at the " rate of time and a-quarter i'or the first t two hours, time and a-halt thereafter f U p to 10 p.m., and double time between " 10 p.m. and tho ordinary time for com--1 mencing work next morning; doublo 3 time on Sundays, New Year's Day, 5 Good i'riday, Easter Monday, Chnstk mas Day, and Boxing Day. 3 Night' shifts: Workers engaged on f night shifts shall be paid 2s. per sliitt ' extra; one day and olio night shift only y shall be worked during each twent.v----r four hours. . • . , Dirt money: Workers shall be paid 1 2s. and youths Is. extra per day as dirt I money for dirty work, as specified. Wages: Machinists, range-fitters, 0 grinders, strikers, yardmen and labour--0 ors shall be paid at the minimum rate 0 of Is. 4Jd. per hour. Men employed as holders up on any class of work, furs nacing and flanging, boiler work, shall bo paid Is. 4id. per hour for ashore and v Is. 6d. per hour on ships. " Employment of Youths: Youths may G be employed at not less than tlio followy ing rates of wagesUp to 17 years of) age, £1 per week; 18, £1 55.; 19, £1 K 10s.; 20, £2; 21, Is. per hour. The t proportion of youths shall not be more 7 than ono to every five or fraction of five j men fully employed; but this shall not d affect the employment of any youth ; s duly apprenticed under the provisions of 'k' an award, in respect to work to be dono in assisting any journeyman in 1 the trade to which ho has been ap--0 pointed. T u y Suburban and Country Work: In suby urban work (over a mile from the em- '? ployer's place of business) travelling l 5 time at the rate of four miles per hour . shall be allowed. For country work the I s worker shall be allowed his fare, pay--3 ment for travelling time, allowance for II meals and board and residence if nec- '® essary. 0 Preference;: Compulsory preference is '. e sought. The award shall apply to an area within a radius of 25 miles from the Chief Post Office, Wellington.
