STAGE SCENERY.
HELD UP BY THE STRIKERS. One of the most worried men in Wellington 011 Saturday evening was Mr. Richard Stewart) manager of tho Royal Comic Opera Company, which arrived from Wanganui by.the express en route to Christchurch, where; it is to open this' evening. One load of scenery was to liavo been sliippedsouth by tlio Mouowai on Friday, but though the lorry was permitted to pull right' aloiigsido tho steamer and empty its contents on to the- wharf, tho strikers would not allow it to.bo placed in slings. The pre-J sident of the Waterside Workers' Union (Mr. F. Curtice) and tho Strike Committco 'Were approached by a Dominion representative, and later by Mr. Stewart personally, but they wcro omphalic jn holding that no watereidors' work was to. bo doiio by anyone. No; they would not do it themselves for all the gold of the Indies, and they would not allow anyone else to do it. Mr. Stewart managed to get. tlu wardrobe through, as it was. mixed up in the personal effect.I*,1*, but the company had to depart- at II p.m. on Saturday without any scenery for "The Quaker Girl," with which musical comedy the Christchurch season was t» open tonight. As "The llelle of New York" scenery had boon son!; on to Cliristclmrch before tho strike, it is probable that the company may open in that, bill in tlio hope that the arbitrary action or tho ivalnrsidore will not continue, or that tho strilsa may end.
