(from Our Special OorroßPondsnt.) !A large batch of motorists, who will bo- charged with exceeding tho speed limit through tho Hutt Borough, will appeal' at tho Hutt Court on November St. David's Presbyterian Church at Potono was crowded 'to tho doors- last evening. Tho Rev. Mr. Stevenson addressed tho gathering on "Fellowship." Tho United Christian Association of Pctone was well represented at tho meeting. Tho anniversary of tho Potono Baptist Sundav -school urns celebrated yesterday. The Rov. Dr. Hughes, D.D. (Bcrhampore) preached impressively morning and afternoon, and tho Rev. J. J- Lewis ill, tho evening. The attendances worej large throughout the day. T . „ Tile final meeting of tho Hutt Valley Carnival Committeo was Held at Petono on Saturday evening. All tho arrangements necessary were made, and all that is needed! to-day is good weather to make tho carnival a success.
Owing to the heavy gale on Saturday the opening of tho Heretaunga Boating Club's season was postponed. This organisation Iras mado rapid - strides since its beginning somo : six years ago. At present ono finds at the shod other attractions beside, boating. 11l addition to a beautifully-built pleasure boat, there is a- "Jlagazino Club" for members, besides several journals on boating, yachting, etc., for tho benefit of members. In order to hold tho lads together during tho long winter months a bagatello table has been installed, costing £40. Tho meetingroom is largo and inviting, lined and mado attractive. Undoubtedly tho club owos -its succoss to the fact that members may find entertainment in or out of season. . , „ . , The Potono District High Scliopl opened its tennis court on Saturffay afternoon, when there was a largo attendance) of parents, teachers, and committee-men'. Mr. W. Foster (headmaster) and! Mr. J. Lynsky were also present. Mr. D. M'Eenzio (cfcurmaji of tho committee), in an encouraging speed'h, spoke of tho benefits derived from tho game, and also gave somo good advice oni "How to ta-cklo an opponent." He then "started the -ball rolling," and formally declared the season open. Soveral games wore . played by scholars and others, after which afternoon tea was served by tho Ladies' Committee, and a very pleasant timo was spent. In response to a. request from tho Potono Ambulance Committee, members of tho Children's Carnival Committeo Waited upon tho Ambulance Van Committee last, week and agreed to reproduce tho 'carnival lately given in aid of St. Augustine's building fund in aid of, tho van funds. Mr. W. Foster, director of coremonies, acted as spokesman. Mom hers of tho conunittcos and tho general public are looking forward t-o tho carnival as the event of tho season. To-morrow evening Professor Owen Cardston will visit Pctone. 110 will meet 'representatives of the St. Jolm Ambulance Brigade, Pet-one Band, Orchestral Society, and Ambulance Van Committee, and will unfold a scliomo wherein those bodies may ulaco their finances on a sound footing. The Mayor of Petonn (.Mr. J. W. M'liwttn) will preside at the meeting.
There can bo little dcrnbt that tho advent of the !.notor-oar and cycle will have a marked effect on tlm numbers of horses competing at tlio shows in tlio jumping competition. Though this part of t'ho sliow at Carterton will provide some ' excellent competition, numbers are aot so great as last year,
