When that building 'was put up in 1809 it was considered an ovidorico that Auckland was goiiijj ahead by leaps and bounds. The designing of tile iiew building was placed by the directors in t'lic hands of Messrs. lioggafd and Prousp, Wellington aiid Mr \V. 11. Quiumor, A.1M.8.A., tlio latter being an Auoklandor, It has been decided that tho. building shall bo of sovoii stories, with skeleton steel, frame r.iid roinforeeu ■concrete walls, floors, and panels, It i.a estimated that t'lie cost of tlio building will bo about £50,000. Tho first four floors will be approached by a commanding ontraneo of marble, alid aro to bo utilised for tlio head and / branch office of tho New Zealand Insurance' Company, Tlio bo;vttJ room it to liitvo two electric lifts and everything will ho tip-t<Mkl6, so that this new block of buildings will bo quite an addition to Queen Street. The demolition of the present Insurance Buildings entails Hie Auckland Stock Ex* cDilnge finding ether auarters.
