From Timarti to Rangitata we had tho wind against us. It grew stronger rapidly, 'and,' until we turned to como along down to Ashburton, it was pretty rough going. From Rangitata on tilings improved, and we made fast time to Ashburton and on, the wind then being well to one side, and a little behind if anything. I pushed on on my own for a good part of the way, and made tho pace fairly hot, and soon caught Humm and Wilson, and also Henderson. I picked up tho limit men at Burnhnm, and then felt more comfortable, as I. thought that, barring accidents, I had a chance to pull tho race off. No; I had absolutely no trouble with either my tyres or m.v machine. Tho first stood lip wonderfully well, and my cycle rati as sweetly as possible." The record, which O'Shea easily broke on Saturday, was established last year by 11. Henderson (I'almerton North), whose time was Slirs. 22min. Henderson started from scratch to-day, and did not finish.
