Wedding In Sydney. A marriage of interest- to Wangamij residents took placo in Sydney on Wednesday at St. I'hilip's Church, when Mr.'ll. 0. Smith, of Messrs. F. It. Jackson and Co.'s, was marriod to Miss Margaret Hatrick, the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Hatrick, of Wanganui. Mrs. Hatrick and her three daughters are just l returning from a nine months' tour of tho United Kingdom dnd tho Continent.' Tho party, with Mr, and Mrs. Smith, arrive in Wanganui next week. A Soout Wedding. A party of Baden-Powell Sea Scouts formed a smart guard of honour outside the Church of All Saints', Ennismore Gardens, Fifeskire, on September on the occasion of the wedding of Mr. Wnrington Baden-Powell, K.C., II.N. Reservo, 6on of tho late Rev. H. BadenPowell, of Oxford, and Miss Cicely Hilda Farmer, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Farmer, of Brownhills, Fifeshire. The officiating clergy wero the Rev. Malcolm Farmer (brother of the bride), the Rev. James Powell, (cousin of the bridegroom), and tho Rev. R. Moseley, chaplain of tho Royal Hospital, Chelsea. Mr.. Spencer Gollan gave'his Bister-in-law away, and the bridegroom was accompanied by General Sir Robert BadenPowell as best man. When tho bridegroom and his best man arrived at tho church the Scouts cam© smartly to attention and were inspected by the Chief Scout. The three bridesmaids were Mies Julio Gollan. Miss Maud Ba.dcn-PoweJl (daughter of Lady Baden-Powel!), and Miss Freda Gollan (daughter of Mr. Spencer Gollan).

Promotion of Women. A meeting of the Sooiety for tho Protection of Women and Children was held on Friday afternoon, Lady Stout presiding. Otherß present were: Mjbdames G. Ponsonby, F. M. 11. Fisher, Hadfield, I). M'Laren, A, A. Corrig; n, Chatficld, 0. H. Izard, and Miss Stew* art. " The following resolution wasi passed: "That the Sooiety for tho Protection of Women and Children wish to express their biuggto sympathy with Mrs. M'Artluir, in her sad and suddon bereavement, and their d&op appreciation of Dr. M'Arthur's kind aha sympathetic help in thoir work." The Astronomy of New Zealand, Miss Mary Proctor is writing an article on tho "Astronomy of Now Zealand," in the course of which she is ro» {erring to owners of private observe tories, telescopes, and their work. A« Miss Proctor is anxious not to omit any \ frames, slio will bo glad if all thosejvlio are doing: practical work in astronomy, or even simple observing work for entertainment, will forward an account of their work to her, caro of the Govern-, mont Astronomer, Hector Observatory, Wellington. Tjio article will eventually bo published in the Journal of tho British Astronomical Association, and probably also in "Knowledge."

The district competitions, which are being held on Monday in connection with St. John Ambulance Brigade promise to bo very interesting. They begin at 9 o'clock on Monday morning in the Garrison Hall in Buckle Street, and Will bo taken part in by several visiting squads. Aiiibulanco people generally and those interested in ambulance work should find much to interest tliein i.n these competitions.
