The chief secretary is to accotnpany tho Commissioner te Auckland. Mr. F. Kershart has been appointed overseer to the Hutt River BoaTd, vico Mr. E. Fisher, who has Received an appointment under the Palmerston-IL-u-Tanga River Board. Mr. Fisnor was the recipient of a presentation on "Wednesday evening by tlio board s cmployees. Mr. H. N. Fletcher, tho well-known vocalist, is at present suffering from a rather severe attack of 1 laryngitis.

Mr. Thomas Thomson, M.1.M.E., and Inspector of Minos for tho Southern District of tho Dominion, has received an appointment as manager of tho Waipa Collieries, Ltd., at To Akatca, in tho Waikato. Mr. Thomson has had considerable experience in Now Zealand and British Columbia. In 1907 ho was appointed assistant civil engineer to the AYestport Coal Co., and during the three following years held tho position, of manager of tho Ironbridgo Colliery. Ho was later appointed Inspector or Minos.
