All tho coal which, tho company liad on hand has now been sent out in fulfilment of orders, and thcro is no -reserve whatever. . ! Peaceful picketing is Btill going on. The men appear quiet, but determined. A number of tho younger men left town yesterday. The executive states that theso axe only holiday-making, and that thev registered their names before leaving. Mr. Sample left for Auckland yesterday afternoon, and Mr. Gavin Stone,, of tho federation executive, for the King Country. Both assured tho miners. Breaking in their private capacity, of the federation's support. Tho directors state tho men must make the first movo. i MR. ALISON'S REMARKB. I : POSITION FTJLLY CONSIDERED. (By Telegraph-—Special Correspondent.) Auckland, October 24. 'An attitude of firmness is being displayed by both parties to tho present trouble at Huntly. Mr. ,E. Alison, managing director'of tho Taupiri Company, In referring this moMiiim to tho stoppage of work, stated that there had been no developments so far as tho company was concerned. The position taken up by the directors had already been clearly indicated. Tho _ answer given to the action of tho miners m flagrantly defying tho terms ' of tho agreement was definite and-final, and thore was no likelihood of the directors withdrawing from the attitude adopted. After giving tho matter full consideration tho directors had definitely _ refused to negotiate with tho United Federation of Labour or any of its officials.
railway coal. THE STOCKS IN HAND AMPLE. ( In conncction with the strike at tho Huntly mines, the question has been raised as to now the railways in tho north will bo affected. It appears that the Railway Department is not in the least concerned about tho strike. From inquiry mado at tho General Manager's office yesterday, it was learned that tlio department has ample coal stocks to last for many months.
