Tbo Customs Department at Hokitika to-day reviewed the skins, and some ninetv'wero laid aside,for further instructions. A' sum of over £200 lias 'been subscribed for the Scott Expedition Memorial Fund, tho purpose being _to institute' aamual essav competitions by primary school pupils on suitable subjects. *Tho interest upon tho capital sum.to be given as prizes, one te a boy .and one t-o a girl. Bartetors and solicitors practising within tho Wanganui district, which comprises in addition to Wanganui and Waverloy tho towns of Marten, Huntervillo, Mangaweka, Taihape, _ and Raetilii have formed a Law Society of the district of Wanganui under tho presidency of Mr. Jas. Watt.
