RIFLE SHOOTING.

[By Aperture.]

THE CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING,

D.r.a. Programme,

n .'^' le prograjnine ■ for the Dominion liHie annual championship meeting, which is to bo hold at Trentham in February next, is. bound to meet with considerable approval amongst riflemen in all parts of New Zealand. The programme was fully dealt with in yesterday's D.osimon so that there is no need for me to disouss it herd., Suffice it to say that the programme seems to 'bo in thorough accordance with the objects of the association, wliich are "to encourage th& members of the New Zealand military forces to became efficient in the uso of tho rifle, and to promote rifle shooting generally, as a necessary element for the defence of the Empire." 'Every class of shot is eatered for in the new programme, in a way which has never before been dona. Tho championship series, which appeals most to the man who follows shooting as tho fine sport it is; has been extended, and will thoroughly test the skill of every competitor. There is also a sufficiently large and varied series of Service matches, including several of the most useful and interesting competitions in this branch of shooting. A complete innovation, which I feel sure will be heartily welcomed, is the miniature rifle and Morris tube series. These matches, for which substantial prices are offered, are open to till comers. Tile conditions governing tho small-arm shouting have been well thought out, and the enterprise of the D.R.A. in this rospeet should lead to a■' wider popularity for this useful form of sport. Many other useful changes—too numerous for mention lmrfr—are embodied in the programme. The D.R.A. has given ample proof of its progressiveness, and of its real desire to encourage every branch of rifle shooting. It now only remains for riflemen to do their part, by "rolling-up" in. large numbers to what gives promise of being in every respect a memorable meeting.

Karorl Club's SeasonThe Karori\Clufc. which has held tiro practice matches' this season, will comment® its official sories of matches at Trentham to-day, when Mr. W. H. Tisdall's trophy will bo fired for. Tho programme of matches for tho season, which was issued yesterday, is very complete one, and contains many interesting events. The championship matches will commence on Saturday next, November 1. Tlio championship series will comprise ten matches, in two separato series of. five matches each. A handicap aggregate prize will be awarded to the best of the handicap men at the end of the series. Conditions will bo the same as for tho championship. .
