MELBOURNE WBEOKEII.' • Advicen from London state that 1 the steamer Melbourne, which was ovrdue at Cebu from Newcastle, is ashore on one of tho islands in the Pacific, and, in all probability will become a total loss. So for no ' definite information g& to tho safety of < the crow, or the exact spot where the vessel struck, has come to hand. The Melbourne is a steamer of 3777 tons gross, and i 2395 tons net register, and was built in ' Sunderland in 1890. She in owned by K. M. Hudson and Sons. She left Newcastle on September 20 with 4523 tons of ' coal. NEW TYBER STEAMEB9. Information Ms been received • locally to tho effect that Messrs. Workman, Clark, and Co. expect to have the new Tyt-er liners, Star of England and Star of Victoria, ready for commission at the «ttd of the year. The vessels have been specially designed for the United Kitigdom-Aus-tral.ian-New Zealand trade, and will each be of about 10,000 tons register.
