HOSPITAL FIRE RISK.
' WHO SHOULD HOLD IT? THE STATE OH THE COMPANIES. At yesterday's meeting of tlio Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Hoard, tlio question was raised whether the board's fire insurance business should be placed with the State Fire Department or with the insurance companies. A committee, which had been set up to deal with the matter, gave their solution of tlio problem by placing before tlio board a recommendation in the following form: — "That the whole of the board's fire insurances be placed wit-It tlio South liritish Insurance Company, provided that one-third is insured with tlio State Fire Insurance Department. The South British Company, to arrange for re-insurances locally, and to submit a copy of tlio division made by it in regard to tlio ro-insurnnees." The chairman (the Rev. W. A. Evans) mentioned that a minority report, with which he himself agreed, favoured the insuranco being placed in the first instance with tlio State Fire Department. During the coiirso of the discussion that followed, Mr. F. T. Moore moved as an amendment to the coirimittee's recommendation:—"That tho whole of the board's insurances be placed with tho State Fire Insurance Department." Tho amendment wn3 seconded by Dr. Mackenzie, r.nd a lengthy debate followed. A division was taken on the amendment,' which was lost, and tho recommendation of the committer was carried, the voting being-recorded as follows:—Ayes: Dr. Platts-Mills, Messrs. Robertson, Nash, Campbell, Petherick, i'Voeman, Gardener, Baldwin, and Smith. Noes: Tho chairman (Rev. AY. A. Evans), Rev. J. K. Elliott, Dr. Mackenzie, Mrs. M'Laren, Messrs. Castle, Moore, and M'Laren.
