BOROUGH'- COUNCIL MEETING. The Miramax Borough. Council held its ordinary meeting Inst evening. The Major (Mr. F. Townsend) presided. In regard to tho proposed electrification of the borough a letter was sent to the consulting engineer in question by the Works Committee asking him to reviso his report oji the scheme by bringing the figures up to dato. Before giving the City Council notice of its (the Miramar Council's) intention to take over the undertaking, it was considered- Advisable to have an estimate of the amount tho council would be required to pay to the City Council. The report 6houid also outline ' the area proposed" to be served. The cost of altering private consumers' connections would probably be borne by the council, and should be allowed for in the estimate. • It- was also decidied to aek the City Council, for information as to electric mains laid since tho former schedule had been prepared. The Electric Lighting Committee furtheT reported that application was to be made to the Minister of Public Works for a , license to run electric, mains in the district. . Tram Returns, The comparative returns from April. 1 . to October 13 for the • Borough Council trams were reported as follow, the figures for 1912-13 being in parentheses:—Loss on Miramar line, .£315 7s. (,£262 15s. 3d,); loss on Seatoun line, £2 17s. 2d. (£69 6s. 6d.); loss on both lines, .£3lB 4s. 2d. (,£332 Is. 9d.); less coupon t'ekets, ,£lO9 12s. (£93 145.); loss for period, .£2OB 12s. 2d. JE23B 7s. 9d.). , Special Rates. A reply was received from the Department of Internal Affairs in regard to the council's suggested amendment respecting the, liability for special rates of land acquired by local authorities for special purposes that would prevent tho subsequent resale of such land. The reply was to the effect that the Government could not see its way to propose the amendment suggested. The principle of the rating of land acquired by local authorities out- ' side tlieir own districts for cemeteries, waterworks, etc., was involved', and re- , quired very great consideration before any alteration was made. Other Matters. The various aooounts were reported to have bank balances, as follow District fund, .£937 10s. 3d. defhit; improvements loan, £734 6s. 4d. credit; and power supply loan, £1980 Is. 3d. credit. The circular letter from the Thames Borough Council in the regard to tho Slaughtering Inspection Act was read, and it was decided to support the suggestions embodied in the. letter. The engineer reported that' during the month 11 connections had been made with the water main, bringing un the total .to 220; 16 permits had been issued for sewer connections, making tha number ;of tJvese 68.. Seven building permits had been issued of a total value of £1231, tho . fees from which had amounted to £3 15s. I The expenditure in wages for. tho past month had been £102 Bs. 2d. The Public Works Committee reported that a schedule of material purchased for the high, level water supply scheme, and available for sale, had bee.n laid oh the table at its meeting. Mr. R. L. Mestayer reported that the contractors were making very good progress with' the erection of the electrical ' plant at the power station. The only portion of plant to arrive was the motor generator and switchboard, which were due carlv next month. Tho concrete floor of tile station had been practically completed.
