CONFERENCE PROPOSED.
BY MR. P. HALLY. Yesterday afternoon Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, who is never very far away when labour troubles aro in the air, approached tho executive of tho Waterside Workers' Union, tho Union S.S. Company (as represented by Mr. W. A. Kennedy), and tho Shipowners' Federation with a view to ascertaining if a settlement of tho whole, troublo could not bo brought about by means of a conference, which he proposes to be held under tho presidency of the Prime Minister. He gave tho invitation to the conference to tho executive of tho Watorsido Workers' Union in person, was invited into the room in the Queen's Chambers, and asked to say a few words there and then, and urged conciliatory methods as being most likely to bring about a settlement of tho troublo. Mr. Hally's proposal to hold a conference of the representatives of the parties'concerned, 'with tho Prime Minister , (Hon. W. P. Massey) in tho chair, will be discussed at a meeting of tW union to bo held at 8 o'clock this morning.
