& PROPOSAL TO JOIN HANDS. _ At yesterday's mooting of the Wellington Hospital and Charitablo Aid Board, a letter was received from tho Buller District Board suggesting a conference to consider the . question of forming an association. The letter read as follows:— ! " At the last meeting of this board it was suggested that inquiries should be made from other boards as to the desirability of forming an association of Hospital and Charitablo Aid Boards on similar lines to the Municipal and County Council Associations, which have proved useful in directing the ; course legislation should tako in connection with borough and county matters, and has enabled an exchange of ideas regarding the scope and management of these local bodies to bo made, and an economical interpretation to be obtained on the various questions arising from the laws relating to them. "There is no doubt that many questions relating to hospital management, charges for maintenance, distribution of-'relief and tho economical working of the various functions of Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards, could bo discussed by such an association- with benefit to all, and would load to a general system governing all tho aspects of tho board's wor'kj whilst- a united opinion would bo given on tho requirements of tho Hospital and Health Departments and _ assist, them in initiating or developing any reform or correcting any abuse that may arise. This board would commend the matter to the, consideration of your board, and if it was thought advisabto to have the formation of such an association discussed, would ask you-to notify mo accordingly. If sufficient replies aro received a meeting of representatives could be arranged at a convenient centre." The letter was considered when the Finance Committee's report cnine hefore the meeting. The chairman (the Rev. W. A. Evans) then moved:— "That this board heartily approves of the proposal to form an a-ssoeiatioii of Hosoital and Charitable Aid Boards us outlined by the Buller Hospital and Charitable Aid Board." After the chairman and Mr. D. M'Laren had said a few words in support of tho suggested association, tho motion was earricd on the voiecs.
