( 'HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. i There is a pleasing variety in this J week's programme at His Majesty's ' 'J'heatrc. roremost on tho bill is "Foolish Ford,"- an American burlesquo come3ian with a gentiinely humorous turn wliicli quite justifies his name. He features a ; burlesque weiglit-lifting act, which is comical in tho extreme. Miss Gabriello Hopo introduces an original musical turn, while another entertain- | ii)g musical act is provided by "Tho • Three Breevo's." Desperado ; and La Rose, a pair of clover and daring aerial artists, give another good ttirn. V THE KING'S THEATRE. The star .film at the King's Theatro this week provides something that is v sensational and interesting, in a word, 1 just what a largo. section of peoplo seem to want. The picture is entitled t "Shipwrecked," and relates to the ad- t ventures of a millionaire aud his friends t on a desert island. There, cut off from 1 -the conventions and class difference, a e valet assorts himself, after tho style of 1 Barrio's Admirable Criciiton, and Js ac- t knowledged as head of the community ( of 'castaways. Ho eventually wins tho c hand of the millionaire's daughter, when, after a series of exciting adven- c tures, tho party once more regain civi- ti lisation. The r Edison '.'masterpiece" drama, "Tho j Twin Brothers," is an inipressivo Story of twin brotliers "of-opposite ; The weaker 'oitf Eventually (iffiers to' sacrifice himself to save tho other from arrest, but -it is ultimately shown that the"latter 'is.'not'guilty .of' tin! crime which he believes ho has committed. A t fine acrobatic display is witiiessed in v the film entitled "Tho Bertanos." "Fun- 1 chal" affords fine views of tho capital of Madeira. "The~plit'l<uggot" (Lubm Western drama), "Waiting for Hubby" (Tannhanser "star" comcdy), and "Objections Overruled" are among tho remainder. A new series will bo intro- ( duced to-morrow. ( SHORTTS'PICTURES. i The most / prominent featuro of the ' excellent series of pictures, which aro > how being screened at is a film of the sensational typo entitled •'The Penalty of Crime." Tho spectaclo ' of a car and its occupants hurtling to destruction over a huge cliff into a river is the last- word in sensation'. Tho Vitagraph Company is represented on the programme by two fine dramas, r "The Only Veteran in Town" and "Tho Heart of a Doll." The remaining films aro well worth seeing. Gilchrist (violin), Mr. Christian Hellemann ] (organ), Mr. Charles Clarkson (ban- ( tone), and Mr. Frank Amsden (piano), f Tlic-re-is every, indication of a large audience -being present to givo tlio u ellington contralto a warm welcome back to tho Empire City. Miss Caldon' will sing a large number of songs, and the programme has been arranged attrac- , tivelyj for it includes various kinds of , music—classical, modern; and popular. Miss Caldow's chief-items are: "Dor t Wanderer" (ScTiubci"t) \ Avaneift, from Bizet's "Carmen"; "Nearer My • ' God to Thee," with grand organ accompaniment by Mr. Helleinanu; Sanderson's "Until" and "Tlio Rosary," by special request. j\lr.
