■ ANNUAL MEETING. At the fourteenth annnal meeting of ] tho' Wellington Volunteer Firo Police- | last night, the Mayor (Mr, J. P. Luke) ' presided, and he was supported by Capr tain Wright, of tho Firo Police, and 1 by Superintendent Tait, of tho Municipal Fire Brigade. 3 After members had been sworn in for 1 the ensuing year, tho annual report and 3 balance-sheet wero submitted .to the ~ meeting and adopted. A precis of tho 3 Teport was published j'esterday. Election of officers resulted as folr low: —Captain, Mr. J. Wright; lieu--1 tenants, Messrs. J.- C. Cusack, T. Bal--1 linger, A. Aslier, and J. A. Short; 3 lion, treasurer. Mr. F. Cohen; lion. J secretary, Mr. E. Von Bernewitz; hon. s auditors, Messrs. R. W. Brown and C. Baker. 1 After the business had been transact--1 ed, the Mayor entortained members of 1 tho corps, and a very pleasant hour was spent. s Mr. P. Dalrymplo, of the Southland ~ -Deeds Office, who has been promoted to 1 Dunedin, Vas the recipient of two s presentations oir Saturday. During 0 tho morning he was met by tho staffs y of tho Lands, Deeds, and Stamp Des part-ments, on behalf of whom Mr. W. 'J W. Do Castro, District Lands Registrar, made a. presentation. He referred to 0 Mr. DalryAiple's long and valuable services to his Department, and to the Government, and congratulated him oil his promotion to a superior position in 0 Dunedin, wishing him a continuance of r tho success with which his labours had i" thus far been rewarded. He presented ' Mr. Dalrymplo witli a .set of military hair brushes in a case suitably inscribed. Later in tho day about a dozen n members of the Southland Law Society met in the office of tho president, I) Mr James Harvey, to tender to Mr. Dalrymplo a presentation of an oak 0 chest of cutlery in recognition of the esteem .in which they held him. Sir. s Harvey said that it was his honour as president of the society to express the regret that so efficient an officer was being removed. 'J'lie.v all recognised that (1 however great might bo their loss, he j. was being promoted, and they desired to [s congratulate him on having been selected for advancement.
