Recently a Nelson deputation waited 0 on the Union Company, and the result " now is that the company have tins' nounced that a night lorry service will bo commenced by tho l'ateena on Mona day, November 10.. ■ 1 To set tho now service on foot, cerb tain changes havo been necessary. Tho 3 steamers which will be employed in tho now services will be tho l'ateena, Ma--1 pfaurika, and Arahura. Tho first- [ mentioned will leavo Wellington for I Nelson three evenings a week, and sho is to leave Nelson direct for Welling--5 ton on two evenings per week, coming via Picton on Saturday mornings. This j arrangement is to enablo Nelson and j Marlborough people to connect with j tho south boat from Wellington on Satl urday evenings. On Mondays, Wedu nosdays, ad Fridays tho Anchor Lino's j passenger steamer Nikau leaves- Nelr son for Wellington direct, returning on r Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. In : conjunction with tho Pateena this . vessel will maintain a daily night sor- , vice between tho two ports, Sun'days 3 excepted. ■ • r _ Following are full particulars regarding the running of the new services: — j The Pateena will leavo Wellington for > Nelson direct at 9 p.m. on Monday and ; Fridays) instead of at 12.45 p.m. for i Picton and Nelson, as at present. Wednesdays sho will be dispatched from j Wellington . for Picton and Nelson at 5 . p.m. The Pateena will arrive at Nelson on the mornings of Tuesday, Thursj day, and Saturday. and she is i scheduled to sail on the roturn trip for I Wellington direct on _ Tuesday and . Thursday evenings, boing duo in port 5 ou the following mornings. . On Satur- ) day mornings she will leave Nelson for I Picton, and will arrivo at Wellington 3 on Saturday afternoon or evening. , It has been decided that tho Mapoui rika and AraTiura will make intermcdii ate trips between Wellington and Pic--1 ton, in addition to maintaining tho ■ Wellington-West ' Coast services. . On ■' Mondays' tho Mapourika will leave Wel- ; lington for Picton only at midnight. • Sho will leave Picton at 5.30' p.m. on ) Tuesdays, and arrivo here four hours i later.- The' Arahura will leave Wcli lington at 1 p.m. on Fridays, and ar- • rivo at Picton at 5 p.m. An hour ; later she will leavo again for Wellington, and is due here at 10 p.m. the . same day. Regarding the Wellington-West Cpast i service, it has been decided to dispatch - tho Mapourika from Wellington at 5 >. p.m. on Wednesdays for Westport and ! Greymouth. She is due at Groymouth - on Friday mornings, and will be dis- • patched for Westport tho same evening. Leaving the latter port on Saturday i' morning, tho Mapourika will come direct to Wellington, and is due here on i Sunday morning. The, Arahura, which has acted .as tho only weekly connec- ■ tion between Wellington, Picton, Nel- ' son, and West Coast port 3 for some ' time past, will continue in her old timo- • table running.
