A NEW RAILWAY TIME-TABLE.
, If CRITICISM PROM WESTX/AND. (By Telcgfaph.—Special Correspondent.) Hokitika, October 21. Tlso now railway time-tablo providing for an accelerated railway sorvico between the East and West Coast is the . subject of much adverso comment throughout the whole West Coast district south, of Grcymouth. This feeling of disappointment is keenest felt in Kumara, Hokitika, and Ross, and tko neighbouring-districts; Tho southern district will not benefit at all by tho new arrangement. The new timetablo provides for tho. splice from east to west and from west to, east being -run on Tuesdays, Thursdays] and Saturdays, and agitation in the southern district was promoted with the objeet of getting tho Railway Department to make fiokitika the terminal point of the accelerated service, in- 1 'stead of Grcymouth.' It will, of course, be seen that by running tho service both ways on the same day considerable saving in expense must result, as tho train which carrics tho passengers to tho coach terminal points each day tlio service is run will not as present have to remain thcro till the next day or return to tho centre empty. Instead of that tho train leaving Christehurch 'on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays will carry the westward-bound passengers to tlio Bealoy terminus, •which is now Halpin Creek, and will "there await the arrival of the eastwardbomul passengers instead of running on alternative days, as is tho' practice under tho present . arrangements. The same arrangements will bo carried oil the Westland sido of tho ranges. This should result in considerable' saving, but the Department should also have borne in mind that tho Westland section of tho New Zealand Railways is almost the best paying of the Dominion lines. The people of that largo district south of Grcymouth, however, aro not asking for extra trains. The Kumara. Hokitika, and Ross people could be given tlio many advantages which must come from the accelerated service without these facilities costing tho Department on© penny extra expense. Tlio solution is simplicity itself. ■ All that is necessary is for tho Railway Department to delay tlio evening train on Tuesday and Thursdays from Greymouth to Hokitika until the arrival of the overland express, 1 and thus carry passengers and mails through to Hokitika. Tho train is now time-tabled to> leave at 5.13, and it only means delaying that train twice a week till a little after 7 o'clock and all the advantages of tHe accelerated service would be extended to the southern districts, and instead of stopping' over night at Greymouth on two of tho three days the service runs, passengers from Wellington would reach Hokitika in about 24 hours, while passeiiEors from Christchurch would reach their destination on the same day as the journey was commenced ; but tile Department has even penalised the residents south of Greymouth, Saturday is the only day upon which passengers nrp to bo carried riiiht through to Hokitika. That is the samo arrangement as now obtains. The new service is expected to land the passengers at Greymouth inst after 7 o'clock, but-, instead of making a short stay at Grey and then proceeding to the Hokitika terminus, passengers arcto be detained at Grcymouth until a quarter to nine, and then carried nn by the ordinary late Saturday night train, which makes a stop at nearly every one of flie fifteen, stations in the 24 miles' run, arriving only.a quarter of an hour earlier'than under tlio present arrangement. The booking for the reserved scats at the Historical Pageant, which is to bo held in Newtown Park on Saturday ami Monday next, is reported to be filling fast at the Dresden, and intending patrons are advised not to delay, as the seating accommodation is limited. In tho event of unfavourable weather, these reserved tickets will be available for the Town Hall. When the system becomes overcharged with uric acid the blood fails (o perioral its natural functions, the body loses "lone." and tho way is laid open for the dread diseases pi Rheumatism, Lumbago, Sciatica, and ijout. Sufi'erers from theft' distressing complaints are often i-e----duced to a very critical condition of health, and many so-called "remedies" aro tried in vain. IMIEUMO is the one real and wholly successful! euro for liric ackl troubles. It is a scientifically compound medicine that drives the uric acid from tha blood—and by removing the cause, it cures tho disease. Of 1 all ohatniri? and stores. is, 6d, and Is. Bd.
