(Prom Our Special Correspondent.) TOMATO GROWERS' MISFORTUNES Last season tomato, growers in tluj Hutt Valloy were heayy losers in consequence of a strange blight which affected the plants. Tlio aid of tho Government Department was invoked, and., frequent demonstrations in spraying have beon held this year, tho object being to give growers sufficient' experience to enable them to combat future attacks of this kind. A foo, not so easily combatible, however, has again afflicted tho grower in the Valley. Th») galo on Saturday week did a fair' amount of damage to tho young plants, and the growers wero just recovering from tho effects of this misfortune when last Saturday's cold snap wrought fresh havoc, with tlio result that in more exposed areas great numbers of plants liavo been killed, while many potato ureas havo also suffered. The season is yet young, however, for tomato growing, and the aroas whoro plants havo Wan killed aro to bo re-sown. ISLINGTON ST. EXTENSION. Last July a deputation of residents from Islington Street waited on tho Petono Borough Council in reference to tho continuation of tho thoroughfare to Richmond Street. It was stated by tho deputation that tho continuation Would benefit Petono as a whole, and increaso tho valuo of property in tho vicinity. Tbo council promised favourable consideration of tlio proposal. Tho matter, , however, is now indefinitely held up. owing to legal difficulties, tho council boing tmablo to provide a GGft. frontago. MUNICIPAL. , Owing to next Monday being a holiday, tho ordinary meetings of t!fo Hutt and Petono Borough Councils, to have been held on that night, have boon postponed till tho following Wednesday.
