ADELINE GENEE.

0 AND A POETIC TRIBUTE. ;• During hor visit to Australia, Adelino 1 Goneo seems to have' inspired more , poetry to be written than , any other t bird of passage who has alighted on its > shores. One and all seem to have been - taken captive by her elfin grace and . eubtlo charm. Among the many who - have written of her, eitlior in poetry or proso, is Anne R. Rentoul, a daughter of Dr. Rentoul, a leading Presbyterian minister in Melbourne, and sister of r Miss Ida Rentoul, tho promising young r artist. The poem is appended below:— 1 Tho bluebell on its slender stem, k ' Tho bird on aii-y wing; - You wear their guise, and dance with t them, A gladder, gayer thing. And you are come, Genee. Genee, To fill tho young heart s need; r You dance the happy hours away, Tho pulse of youth indeed. i Slim feet the violin strings outpace, i Tuned to some fairy rhyme, I And, as you move in lissom grace, Our spirits beat in time. But aTe you flower or butterfly, Or tricksy doll, or'fay P The golden ages, long gono by, Fashioned such things, Geneo. No sylph or faun of fabled dance, No columbine or sprite, Had half tho power to lure and trance, You Daughter of Delight. So, when in dreams my eyelids close, Oft shall I see you dance, And yon will banish musty prose And bring mo back romance.
