HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) The monthly shoot of tho Hutt Valley Gun Club was held at Taita on Wednesday, when trophies presented by Messrs. Cadsby and Edwards were competed for. IVo events of 21 and 15 birds were held, Mr. S. Scott scouring a leg in for Mr. Gadsby's trophy, and winning outright that presented by Mr. Edwards. Tho leading scores were as follow: —Mr. Gadsby's trophy: S Scott, 12yds., 20 out of 21; S. Edwards, 16yds., 18 out of 21; A. Scott, 19yds., 13 out of 21. Mr. Edwards's trophy: S. Scott, 13yds., 13 out of 15; S. Edwards, 16yds., 12 out of 15; W. Kilmistor, 10yds., 12 out of 15. A meeting of the Hutt Valley Labour Day Carnival Committeo was held on Friday. Tho reports showed that •£36 2s. had been collected, and trophies to tho value of £26 13s. 6d. had been promised. A donation of £5 ss. was promised by tho Petono Borough Council. St. James's Hall, Lower Hutt was crowdod on Friday, tho occasion being a concert in aid of the school funds, organised by Mesdames A. Anderson and M'Dongali and others. Tho following contributed to the procrammo:—Mesdames Anderson, Rising, Scholes. and Rait, Misses Treseder (2), and Williamson,, Miss Slinn and helpers (tableau), Dr. Purdy, Messrs. Wray, M'Ewan, Feast, Scullv, Neill, Hendry, and Moonoy. Tho performance concluded with a dialogue by other performers. The Petono Naval Boating Club held a successful social gathering in tho Drill Hall on Friday. The proceeds aro to be given to the boating fund. The M.C.'s wero Messrs. H. Knight and H. Martin, and Mrs. Pollock was pianist. In the minds of somo Hutt Valley people there has been doubt as to whether finality has Teally boon reached in connection with tho gas agreement between tho Petono and tho Hutt Borough Council. Theso doubts should be sot at rest by tho fact that tho. drafting of tho agreement is now in hand. It will probably be signod during the course of tho next fe>w weeks. Present indications augur well for tho success of tho carnival which is to be held at- : Petono on. Labour Dav.
