Sir Walter Buohanan, who has boon elected for nine Parliaments, and is attending his thirty-second session, in now tho Father of the House of Representatives. Ho first took his seat on May 18, 1882. Sir James Carroll, Sir Joseph Ward, and tho Hon. J. Allen, who first took their seats on October 6, 1887, have tho same number of Parliaments and sessions to their credit. Tho Prime Minister (Hon. W. F. Mas6oy), who first took his seat in 1894, 13 amongst the next 011 tho list with seven Parliaments and 24 sessions. Otherj with the samo record atfo tho Hons. R. M'Kenzio, J. A. Millar, and W. Fraser. Tho Speaker (Hon. F. W. Dang) has also sat in sevon Parliaments, and has attended 22 sessions.

Captain W. J. Foster, tho Commonwealth Defence officer who exchanged with Captain Whyte, of tho Now Zealand Defence Department, for a year, will leave for Sydney by the TJlimaroa to-day, his term of sorvice in the Dominion having expired. Captain Taylor, tho Australian representative of tho London. Salvage Association, who came to Now Zealand in conneotion with Niven and Cff.'s claim for salvage work on tho Star of Canada at. Gisborne, will go back by the same boat. Captain A. H. Caunce.'and Mr. J, G. Maurice, mnster and chief officer respectively of tho wrecked steamer Devon, left for London by the Ruapehu yesterday. Thirty-three officers, engineers, and crew of the Tyrone wore also passengers by tho Ruapehu.
Canon Coates, of, Lyttolton, who i* retiring from the charge of tho parish after an incumbenoy of twenty-two years, was on Tuesday evening entertained by the parishioners.
Mr. G. T. Kemp, who lis.e been act-ing-telegraph engineer in Clirisfcchurch, has been transferred to the position of telegraph engineer at Nelson.
Mr. P. R. Lough, manager of tha Dunlop Rubber Company of Australasia, who lias had chame of tho Christchurch branch for tho last two years, has been transferred to Perth, W.A. Mr. Tom,L. Mills, editor of tho Feild-' ing "Star," arrived, in tho city by yesterday afternoon's express, and leaves to-day for Sydney, en route to Adelaide, where ho will preside over tho Australasian Provincial Press Association Conference.
Mr. Peter M'Donald, whoso death took place at Westport on Tuesday, at the ago of ninety-seven, had recoilootions of Napoleon's wars, took part In tho Chartist riots, and volunteered for service with Garibaldi. Ho landed in New South Wales ill 1847, and had many experiences with bushrangers. Ho had been thirty-threo years in New Zealand.
Mr. John Hanna, gymnastio master under the Otago Higli Schools Board, has handed in his resignation. Mr, Hanna was appointed physical instructor to tho Otago High Schools and tho schools under tho Otago Education Board in January, 1884.-'
Mr. J. A. Flesher, chairman of tho v Christchurch Tramways Board, Mr. 0. M. Gray, deputy-chairman, Mr. G. T. Booth, a member of tho board, and Mr. F. Thompson, general manager of tho tramways, are visiting Wellington for tho purpose of giving evidence before the Local Bills Committee regarding tho Christchurch Tramways Bill.

Tho Hon. Thomas Eelly, of Taranakl, who has been a member of tho Legislative Council for the past twonty-ono years, retires from that position to-day r the seven'years' term for which he was reappointed in 1906 having expired. Sir. Kelly represented New Plymouth in the House of Representatives from 1869 till 1884, and was called to the Upper House in 1892.
Mr. A. T. Botlmmloy has beon appointed to be tho deputy of the Examiner of Standing Orders ou Private Bills.
Mr. J. H. G.' Murdoch, barrister and solicitor, of Napier, is on a visit to Wellington. Ho is staying at tho Grand Hotel.
