CIVIC AFFAIRS.
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The City Council mot last night. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) presided, and there were present also: Councillors R. Fletcher, J. E. Fitzgerald, T. C. A. Hislop, A. H. Hindinarsh, R. A. Wright, M. F. Luckio.E. Tregear, J. Fuller, L. M'Kenzio, W. J. Thompson, A. R. Atkinson, H. Buddie, J. Godber, G. Frost, and W. H. P. Barbor.
The Tramways Committee reported as follows:—"That they have considered the request from the Christchurch City Council, asking that this council will assist them to obtain tho inclusion of a clause in the Municipal Corporations Act Amendment Bill, now before Parliament, to enable local bodies with genorating stations to run thoir wires into and supply electricity to adjacent boroughs if they so wish. The committee recommond that tho Christchurch Council be informed that this council dorive their powers to supply other local authorities with current from speoial Acts, but that they will offer no objection to tho proposed addition to the Amendment Bill.
It was resolved: "That the work of fencing the Zoo area at Newtown Park, tho diversion of the paths, erection of small gates and' a main gate at Daniel Street should be proceeded with, at an estimated cost or £275, such work being necossary before a charge can bo made for admission to tho Zoo." Tho council decided that tlie former decision of the counoil'not to consent to the assignment of tho lease of a portion of the Town Belt at Kilbirnio from tho Kilbirnio School Committee to tho Defence Department should be adhered to. The former decision of the council, resolving not to take over Edward Strcot, Wadestown, until tho work of construction litis been completed to tho satisfaction of the City Engineor, is to be adhered to. ,Tho following committee recommendation was adopted!—" That, after having considered the tendors received for tho supply of motor chassis for the Fire Brigade, together with tho joint reports of tho City Engineer, Motor Inspector, and Firo Brigade, Superintendent, they have to recommend that.'the tender of Messrs. Hatrick and Co. for a 'Thornycroft' chassis, in tho sum of £795, bo accepted." Authority has been granted for the construction of a flight of stepß at Military Road. It was agreed that until tho right-of-way at Harbour View Road can be put in order, and money ia appropriated for tho purpose, a barricade should bo placed at the end of tho thoroughfare to prevent the utilisation of same, and that notices "be erected indicating that there is no thoroughfare. This is considered necessary m view of the dangerous condition of the way. The Outlying Districts Committee reported that they had decided (in view of tho urgency of having Vogeltown resurveyed) to wait on the Minister in charge of Lands and Surveys, "in order that tho Government may co-operate with tho council with a view, to having the question settled." The request of the Northland Electors' Association that tho council should contribute half tho cost of extending connections to sowers across tho road at Northland, whero the sower is located on the far side of the road, was not ontortained.
It was resolved: "That the consent of tho council should be granted to the assignmont of Sections 136, 124, 123, and 121,. and parts 120 and 122, and Section iSo, Lambton reclaimed land, from Messrs. John Fuller and Sons, to His Majesty tho King, and that the City Solicitor be empowered to draw the necessary deed embodying provisions for extension of time to two years for erection of buildings, the removal of the existing buildings before December 31, and also providing that the Crown shall take up the now leases."
