\ TEACHERS' SALARIES. A return in regard to the average salaries of school teachers, which was ordered on the motion of Mr. Ell (Christchurch South) was presented to the Houso of Representatives yesterday by the Minister of Education. The average (inclusive of house allowance) paid to malo teachers in primary schools last year was £204, as against £167 in 1894. The average for female teachers last year was £120, as compared with £90 in 1894. Inclusive of amounts saved in rents in cases in which houses are provided, last year's average for males was £218 (as against £204 in 1906), and for females £123 (as against £112 in 1906).

In secondary schools, exclusive of houso allowance and fees, averages last year wero as follow:—Malo principals, £488 (£426 in 1894); femalo principals, £403 (£3Ol in 1894); malo assistants, £244 (£222 in 1894); female assistants, £160 (£137 in 1894). NATIONAL ENDOWMENTS. A return supplied on the motion of Mr. Witty (Riccarton) in regard to the exchange of national endowment lands was presented to tho House yesterday. The return shows that during the year 1911-12 tho area of national endowment land exchanged for other land was 44,049 acres, of a value of £14,345. The area is comprised of 24,850 acres in the Waihou and Waitoa districts (Auckland), of a valuo of £12,425 (for which other land valued at £12,101 was taken in exchange), and 19,199 acres in the Tripp Settlement (Canterbury), valued at £1920 (for which other land valued at £1920 was taken in exchange). During the year 1912-13 tho area exchanged was 13,886 acies, valued at £24,444. This laud is all in the Canterbury district, consisting of 10,300 acres in the four Peaks Settlement and 3586 acres in the Acland district (Mount Peel). Land of an equal value was taken in exchange.
